Desperados Tropical Daiquiri
This is the second of two different Desperados beers I bought to try out, though having already sampled the first I'm not sure "beer" is an accurate description.
Details
- Beer, 5.9% ABV
- 330ml can
I couldn't find anything about this online, apart from places selling it. On the can it says "Tropical Daiquiri Beer flavoured with aguardiente passion fruit and lime. Rum flavoured."
The rest of the writing on the can is tiny and in black on dark green, but it just lists the ingredients and where it was made so I won't repeat it here.
Expectations
I'm on slightly more solid ground with this one than the previous Desperados beer I tried. I know what passion fruit, lime and rum are like, but I had to Google aguardiente to find out it is a spirit of some sort.
Having said all that, I am just hoping for something that tastes like a tangy beer.
Experience
It looks a lot like cider, a pale yellow with lots of quite large bubbles that don't form a long-lasting head.
It smells sweet and fruity. I don't eat passion fruit often enough to recognise its smell, but it could be that. It doesn't smell like lime anyway.
The taste is quite bitter, not very sweet. There is a fruity element to it, and very little beer flavour comes through. To be honest, it tastes like a random chemical concoction and not something made from natural sources.
Despite the unnatural flavour I think I prefer this to the other Desperados beer I tried, but it still seems pretty weird to me.
Verdict
4/5 : Quite drinkable, just a bit weird.
